The G Word

Mr Beef

Or, how language is being used to hide atrocities Imagine, if you will, that you are accosted int he street by a large group. They are clearly armed, and it appears that the police have no issue with this. They instruct you to move, run, flee, that in 30 seconds they're going to light you and your family up with every round at their disposal if you haven't fled. They say it's because someone on your street, someone known for throwing rocks, just killed their niece, and now everyone with your skin colour is going to pay if they don't run. They say that failure to run away is your fault as they shoot out your tyres, causing everyone to panic and flood the street, preventing all movement. This is a death threat. According to Western journalists, this is an order to evacuate. You're cold and alone, 18 years old. You cannot leave, there are armed guards, fences, walls. The guards can shut off the power, water, food whenever they want. You have committed no crime, faced no trial, but are held in this environment as a result of your bloodline. There are a million others like you. Any attempts to prosper are met with destruction and death. Any attempts to rebel are met with the execution of your friends and family. This is a concentration camp. According to the most sympathetic Western journalist, this is an open air prison.

This is not to give Hamas cover, an organisation that has highjacked Gaza and endagered its citizens for its own gain and is responsible for attrocities of its own.

Western leaders, desperate to not appear critical of Israel and its leadership cravenly allow these terms to shield the truth. That truth is that a nation founded to prevent the genocide of its people is hiding behind that very history to conduct a genocide of its own.
